Bre Pettin of MakerBot Opens 1st Makerbot Innovation Center

Working with university administrators and with cooperation from local businesses, the State University of New York at New Paltz opened the first MakerBot Innovation Center in the United States.

The Center, which will be used by students, faculty, and local industries, will enable rapid prototyping and increase product design cycles. It will also create a forum for increased collaboration and innovation that will help train the next generation of engineers, industrial designers, and artists.

In a March 19th, 2014, phone conversation with Wallace Patterson, MakerBot Education Account Manager, I learned the center at New Paltz is now the MakerBot benchmark site for all universities in the 64-campus SUNY system. "SUNY-New Paltz is now in the driver's seat for setting education and program goals for the use of 3D printing and MakerBot use in the SUNY system," according to Patterson.
